Vega Named Summit League Newcomer of the Year; Four Coyotes Earn All-Conference Honors

10.30.2025

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Four members of the South Dakota women's soccer student-athletes have been recognized by the Summit League with postseason honors, the conference announced Thursday morning. Redshirt freshman Klarissa Vega was named Newcomer of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Newcomer Team, while Mali Van Meeteren was selected to the All-Summit League Second Team with Vega, and Rylee Haldeman and Sam Luft received Honorable Mention recognition.

Vega delivered a standout debut season for the Coyotes, leading the team with eight goals and adding three assists. Her 26 shots on goal rank ninth in program history for a single season.

Van Meeteren started all 18 matches this season, anchoring the midfield with three goals and one assist. She logged 70 or more minutes in every match but one, providing consistent leadership and stability on both ends of the field.

Haldeman, a key presence on the back line, led the team with four assists while also recording 13 shots, including four on goal. Her ability to contribute offensively from the defensive position was a major asset to the Coyotes attack.

Luft served as the foundation of the Coyote defense, starting in 15 matches this season. She added one assist and three shots while playing the full 90 minutes in five matches, showcasing her endurance and reliability as a key defender.

The Coyotes now turn their attention to the first round of the Summit League Championship, where they will face Kansas City at the First Bank & Trust Soccer complex in Vermillion this Sunday at 1 p.m.
