South Dakota wins Tommie Invitational boosted by ten more event wins

ST. PAUL, MINN. — USD swim and dive broke five more school records on the final day of the Tommie Invitational as both the men's and women's teams finished first in the meet. South Dakota also picked up ten individual wins on the day.
 
The day started with the 200 back prelims where Grace Schultz, Henley Hatzung, Joaquin Contreras-Fallico, and Trey Smith all made the A finals. Hatzung finished in 1:59.31 to claim first and break the school record while Schultz finished fourth. Contreras-Fallico also broke a school record with a time of 1:44.20 and earned first-place while Smith finished in second. 
 
The 100 free finalists were Madilyn Gehrke, Nick Rounds, David Mayer, and Matthew Sorbe. Gehrke finished third with a time of 51.73 for the women's team. Rounds swam 43.83 in the preliminary round to set a new school record and then won the final round with a time of 44.03. Sorbe finished third while Mayer took fourth. 
 
In the 200 breast finals it was Taylor Buhr, Quin Mahler-Moreno, and Brock Russell. Buhr swam the race in 2:17.25 to claim first while Mahler-Moreno got fourth. Russel got first for the men's team with a time of 1:59.51.
 
Maddie Schrank, Dawsyn Green, and Will Barth made the 200 fly finals for USD. Green took first for the women's team with a time of 2:03.33 and Schrank took second. Barth finished in third with a time of 1:51.76. 
 
Gabbie Ahrendt was the only Yote to make it to the 100 IM finals and she won the race in 58.10.
 
Maddox Mork, Mason Evenson, and Charlie Matthews all made it to the men's 1 meter dive finals. Matthews scored a personal best 284.50 to take first place. Evenson and Mork tied for third. 
 
 
Emily DiProspero and Alex Parkinson both won the 1650 free for USD and both set school records in the process. DiProspero swam a 16:57.36 and Parkinson swam a 15:18.41.
 
Both the men's and women's team came away with the highest team score and compiled 30 event wins between them.

The Yotes return in January when they travel back to St. Paul for a dual against the Tommie on Friday, January 2 and Saturday, January 3.
