OMAHA, Neb. — South Dakota basketball fell on the road Wednesday night 92-76 at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska to No. 23 Creighton.
Isaac Bruns paced the Yotes with 16 points and three rebounds on 6-of-13 shooting, while
Vince Buzelis scored in double-figures for the first time in his career with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting and had five rebounds and three blocks.
Jordan Crawford chipped in 14 points with three 3-pointers, his first game of the season with multiple triples.
Evan Anderson secured seven rebounds with six coming off the offensive glass.
The Yotes forced 13 turnovers and scored 17 points off the Bluejay miscues, but Creighton secured 19 offensive rebounds, had 29 second chance points, 24 fast break points and scored 54 points in the paint.
Eight Coyotes scored in the first half as the Yotes shot .421 percent from the field, but it was the Bluejays who held a 46-35 advantage at the break. Buzelis led the Yotes with seven points on 3-of-6 shooting in 11 minutes off the bench in the first half. The Bluejays pulled out to a 10-4 lead four minutes into the contest, but a 10-0 Coyote run gave USD its first lead of the night, 14-10, after a layup from
Shey Eberwein. Creighton regained the lead, but a triple from
Jordan Crawford put the Yotes up 21-19 at the midway point of the first half. The Bluejays closed out the first half strong by outscoring USD 15-4 over the final six minutes of the half to take a 48-35 lead into halftime.
Evan Anderson gave the Coyotes extra possessions in the opening 20 as he led the team with five rebounds (all offensive).
Creighton extended its lead to over 20 for the first time three minutes into the second half off a layup from Owen Freeman. Creighton shot 11-of-16 from the field in the first 10 minutes of the second half to extend its lead to 76-52 at the halfway point. The Bluejays shot .563 percent from the field in the second half and held USD to a .417 shooting clip to hold the Yotes at bay and close out a 92-76 win. Bruns poured in 12 second half points on 4-of-6 shooting, while Crawford had nine with a pair of triples.
The Coyotes return to the Sanford Coyote Sports Center Sunday to face Ozark Christian College at 1 p.m.
