LARAMIE, Wyo. — South Dakota basketball fell on the road at Arena-Auditorium Tuesday night 106-79 to Wyoming.
Isaac Bruns paced the Yotes in scoring with 22 points, his fourth straight game with 20+, and had four rebounds and a steal. Freshmen
Uzziah Buntyn and
Jesse McIntosh were the other Coyotes in double-figures with 17 and 15 points, respectively. McIntosh was 5-of-8 from the field and knocked down three 3-pointers.
Wyoming was efficient on the night going 40-for-64 from the field, 9-of-19 from deep and 17-for-21 from the free throw line. The Cowboys scored 60 points in the paint, received 53 from their bench unit and had 19 points off turnovers.
After scoring 28 points in each of the last two games, Bruns was in a groove early in the first half with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. However, the Cowboys' Damarion Dennis matched Bruns' 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Wyoming shot 59.4% from the field in the first half and connected on four 3-pointers, while holding the Yotes to 38.5% shooting. The Cowboys used an 12-2 run to take a 31-17 lead with 8:21 left in the first half, but the Yotes would battle back to cut the deficit to six, 35-29, three minutes later. The Cowboys controlled the final five minutes of the first half outscoring the Yotes 13-3 to take a 48-32 lead into halftime.
Wyoming held a double-digit lead for the entire second half and shot 62.5%perfect from the field. The Yotes were 13-for-27 in the final 20 minutes and were 15-for-20 from the free throw line. Naris Meyer, who had a game high 26 points, had 19 points in the second half to lead the Cowboys to a 106-79 win.
The Coyotes are back in the Sanford Coyote Sports Center for their next two games starting on Saturday when they Prairie View A&M at 1 p.m.
