02.01.2025

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For a second straight day, Caleb Rivera and Mason Sindelar competed against each other for an event title, and for the second straight day, that competition resulted in a new school record.

After Sindelar's school record in the 1,000-meters Friday, it was Rivera's turn to take down a record. Rivera's 4:03.01 time in the mile beat out Sindelar by .06 seconds, who came in second at 4:03.07. Both times were faster than Chad Feeldy's time of 4:04.57 set in 1999. Rivera and and Sindelar have the No. 1 and 2 times in the Summit League this year.

Outside of Rivera's title, Sara Reifenrath (400-meters) and Ethan Baessler (60-meters) added titles on the track and Carsen Staehr (triple jump) added a title in the field events.

Reifenrath ran 54.35 in the 400 to win the event, the top time in the Summit League this season. Baessler ran .02 seconds off his personal best, recording 6.75 to win the 60. Carsen Staehr's 47-7 ¼ in the triple jump won the event and moved him into fourth in the conference in the event this season. Jayden Green took second in the triple jump at 46-2 ½.

A few Coyote Top 10 marks were achieved as well. After entering the top 10 in the long jump Friday, Matayah YellowMule improved upon her top 10 mark in the triple jump, recording a mark of 39-3 ¼ to move into a tie for ninth. It also puts her fifth in the Summit League this season.

The other new Coyote Top 10 result came on the track, where the Coyote women's 4x400 relay team of Averi Schmeichel, Reifenrath, Sydney Stodden, and Calli Davis ran 3:46.34 to move into a tie for seventh in program history.

Spencer Buley took third in the pole vault competition with a personal best 17-5 ¾, moving him into fifth in Coyote history in the event. Second place in the pole vault was Eerik Haamer, also finishing at a height of 17-5 ¾.

The Coyote women's distance group had a trio of strong performances as well, with Berkeley Engelland taking second in the 800 (2:12.11) and Jade Ecoffey (4:57.88) and Madison Brouwer (4:58.95) finished back-to-back in second and third in the mile.

Averi Schmeichel and Jaden Damiano represented the Coyotes well, both taking a runner-up finish in the women's and men's 60-meter hurdles. Schmeichel tied her personal best with a time of 8.46 seconds and Jaden Damiano broke eight seconds with a time of 7.98.

The Coyotes are back on the track Friday and Saturday at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
