SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — For the second time this season, South Dakota softball has swept the weekly Kwik Star Summit League Softball Peak Performers of the Week honors.
McKenna Young was named the Peak Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season, while
Ella McGee garnered her first Player of the Week honor.
Young pitched a pair of gems against North Dakota this weekend, earning a pair of complete game wins. In the series opening 7-0 win, Young tossed her second complete game shutout of the season while holding UND to three hits and struck out 10 batters. It was her fifth game of the year with 10 or more punchouts. Young pitched 5.0 strong innings in a 10-2 run-rule win over the Fighting Hawks where she allowed just one earned run, four hits and struck out six.
Young holds an 8-4 record on the season and carries a 1.79 ERA and has 97 strikeouts. She is No. 2 in the Summit League in both ERA and strikeouts.
McGee played a part in half of USD's 22 runs across the three-game series as she scored seven runs while tallying four RBIs. McGee was 5-for-10 from the plate with one double, a triple and her first career inside-the-park home run. McGee went 2-for-3 in both game one and three of the weekend and scored three runs and drove in three in the first contest of the series. McGee crossed home plate two or more time in all three games, and in four straight games dating back to last week's game against Wofford.
McGee holds a .342 batting average and is second on the team with 23 runs and two triples. She extended her hit streak to nine games, her longest streak of the season so far.
The Yotes are back at Nygaard Field this weekend for a Summit League series with St. Thomas starting on Saturday at noon.
