South Dakota Women's Basketball adds Flattery

04.02.2025

VERMILLION, S.D. – South Dakota women's basketball coach Carrie Eighmey is pleased to announce the signing of transfer Alex Flattery from Nebraska-Kearney. She will join South Dakota with three years of eligibility.

Flattery, a 5-9 guard from Sioux City, Iowa, appeared in 28 games as a freshman with the Lopers, including making a pair of starts. She averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game.

"Alex is a great addition to our program!" Eighmey said. "She's an elite athlete who can defend and set the tone on defense. She plays with a high motor and is a consistent rebounder as well. I've watched Alex a lot over the years, and she's really grown in her confidence on offense. She was extremely efficient as a scorer in her first collegiate season."

She scored a season's best 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and had a season-high eight rebounds against Washburn this season. She shot 48.1% from the field and crashed the offensive glass frequently, grabbing 33 of her 85 rebounds on that end of the floor.

As a Black Raider at Sioux City East, Flattery was a four-year starter and a multi-time all-state selection in Class 5A. As a senior, Flattery earned second team Class 5A all-state honors by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association and third team all-state honors (all classes) by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. During her final season as a Black Raider, Flattery averaged 17 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3.1 steals while shooting 59% from the floor for an 18-6 East team.

Flattery was a three-sport athlete and academic all-conference all four years at East. She intends to major in elementary education at USD.
