Distance runners shine at the Blue Oval Thursday

DES MOINES, Iowa – Three South Dakota distance runners ran Coyote Top 10 times as USD began their weekend at the Drake Relays Thursday.
 
The 5,000-meters was good to the Coyotes, as Geneva Timmerman and Natnael Kifle took third in both the women's and men's races Thursday.
 
Timmerman ran 16:54.07 to place third in the unseeded 5,000. She moved into seventh on the Coyote Top 10. Abrielle Jirele ran 17:13.18 in the race to place 10th. Natnael Kifle ran 14:30.19 to place third in the men's unseeded 5,000 with teammate Isaac Ochoa running 14:48.12 for 11th. Kifle climbed to eighth on the Top 10 list.
 
The third new Top 10 time came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, as Jade Ecoffey ran 10:56.21, staying in ninth place on the Top 10 list, but improving upon her personal best. Alexus Sindelar ran 10:52.42 to be the top Coyote finisher in the event.
 
Beginning the Drake Relays for South Dakota was Berkeley Engelland, who ran 2:10.55 to place eighth.
 
South Dakota is back in action in Des Moines at 10 a.m. Friday morning.
