PREVIEW: Yotes Battle Lamar on Saturday in Texas

VERMILLION, S.D. — No. 4 South Dakota football (0-1, 0-0 MVFC) gets the FCS portion of the 2025 season under way with a trip to Beaumont, Texas to battle the Lamar University Cardinals (0-1, 0-0 SLC) out of the Southland Conference Saturday night at 6 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium on ESPN+.
 
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Dan Gresham and LeMont Williams on the call. You can listen to the game on Coyote Sports Network with the voice of the Coyotes John Thayer beginning the pre-game show at 5 p.m with Gary Culver and Jerry Palleschi joining him for the call in Beaumont.

KEY STORYLINES
  • South Dakota is in their 130th season of college football and with their 31st head coach in program history.
  • USD enters the 2025 campaign on the heels of back-to-back 10+ win seasons for the first time since 1985-86.
  • South Dakota begins inside the top-5 this season, checking in at No. 4 in the FCS STATS Perform poll in the first regular season release.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday marks the fifth meeting between South Dakota and Lamar.
  • It's the third meeting between the two with USD being a Division I program.
  • Lamar has won both previous meetings in Beaumont (1960, 2010).
  • USD picked up their first – and lone – win of the series two seasons ago in Vermillion (W, 35-6), scoring the most points they've ever have against the Cardinals behind Bouman as QB1.
