Omaha, Nebraska — South Dakota women's soccer fell 4-0 to Creighton on Sunday afternoon in Omaha, as the Coyotes were unable to slow down a well-balanced Bluejay attack.
Creighton struck first in the 26th minute when Olivia Duray found the back of the net, assisted by Ariana Mondiri to give the Bluejays an early 1-0 lead. The scoreline held through the remainder of the first half.
Just over a minute into the second half, Mondiri doubled Creighton's advantage with a goal in the 47th minute, assisted by Mallory Connealy and Ella Offer. Creighton would go on to add two more late goals — Anna Bragg in the 80th minute, assisted by Brynn Gardner, and Kennedy Moore in the 89th minute off a setup by Sarah Hyde — to seal the 4-0 result.
Despite the scoreline, the Coyotes battled defensively throughout the match. Goalkeeper Campbell Fischer recorded six saves while facing 19 total shots from Creighton, 10 of which were on frame. South Dakota was held without a shot in the match, with midfielders like Brooke Conway and Izzy Quintavalle working hard to push the play forward. Defenders Campbell Zimmers, Taylor Mulligan, and Sam Luft saw extended minutes as part of a back line under pressure for much of the match.
The Coyotes will look to bounce back as they return home next Sunday, for their next matchup against Wyoming, to finish out their non-conference slate.
