SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The South Dakota Coyotes remained perfect on the season with a hard-fought 4–3 victory over Bradley on Friday at the Cooper Sports Complex.
South Dakota (3–0) grabbed the early momentum by securing the doubles point, winning two of the three matches. The Coyotes struck first at No. 3 doubles as Kayleigh Didderiens and Ava Doddridge posted a 6–4 win. Moments later, Selena Bird and Cassy Marra clinched the doubles point with a 6–4 victory at the top spot. No. 2 doubles were left unfinished with the teams tied at 4–4.
In singles play, the Coyotes needed three wins, and the Yotes delivered. Selena Bird was dominant at No. 2 singles, cruising past Anna Belogliadova 6–2, 6–0. At No. 4, Cassy Marra battled through tight sets to earn a 6–5, 6–5 win, keeping South Dakota in control. The decisive point came from Keta Shavishvili at No. 5, who sealed the team victory with a 6–5, 6–2 performance.
Coach Zinchenko had this to say about today's match, "Ladies played tough today. Going into the match, we knew that it was going to be very close, so every detail mattered. With that in mind, the team was up for the challenge, and they handled themselves really well. Whether it was cheering or ball striking, we had to perform at our best, so I'm very pleased that the team managed their tasks at hand!"
The Coyotes now prepare for tomorrow's match (February 1st) against Missouri State at 10:00 a.m. at the Cooper Sports Complex in Springfield, Missouri.
