Coyotes fall 5-2 against Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The South Dakota Coyotes women's tennis team fell 5–2 to Missouri State on Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Missouri. The Coyotes move to 3–1 on the season following the road loss.

Missouri State claimed the opening doubles point by winning matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. The Yotes earned a doubles victory at No. 2, where Anna Medvyedyeva and Keta Shavishvili posted a 6–4 win over Elsie Jackson and Raluca Puscas.

South Dakota picked up two singles wins, both in convincing fashion. Selena Bird secured a straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Billur Gonlusen 6–2, 7–6. Kayleigh Didderiens added the second point for the Coyotes with a three-set win at No. 3 singles, topping Leni Eichner 6–2, 4–6, 6–2.

Missouri State earned the remaining four singles points to clinch the match. The Bears picked up straight-set wins at Nos. 4 and 5, while Elsie Jackson defeated Natalia Alves de Lima in three sets at No. 6. At the top of the lineup, Lucy Latham outlasted Medvyedyeva in a three-set battle, 4–6, 7–6, 6–2.

Coach Zinchenko had this to say following the first loss of the season, "Ladies fought really hard today and left it all out there. The whole match was decided in an outcome of just a few points and unfortunately today they didn't go our way. Nonetheless, I believe this weekend gave us a lot things to think about and improve on going forward with the season."

The Coyotes go 1-1 this weekend and now prepare for Fridays match against Montana in Sioux Falls.
