Yotes Collect Medals Across Friday Finals at Summit Championships

Iowa City, Iowa — USD continues to stack the podium and load the championship finals, producing event wins, new school records, and a second NCAA mark on day three of the Summit League Championships while holding second place in both team standings. 

The night's first podium result came in the men's 100 butterfly where freshman Dylan Alt captured silver with a 47.06 finish to open the finals session with a medal for the Coyotes. 

In the men's 400 IM, Alex Parkinson added another runner-up finish for South Dakota, touching second in 3:51.23 to secure a silver medal while setting a new school record. 

The women's 200 freestyle saw two Coyotes reach the top-three as Tatum O'Shea placed second in 1:50.31 and Emily DiProspero followed closely for bronze in 1:50.57. 

South Dakota added another medal in the men's 200 freestyle when David Mayer finished third in 1:38.48. 

The Coyotes then dominated the women's 100 breaststroke with a 1-2 finish. Taylor Buhr won the conference title in 1:01.30 and set a new school record while teammate Madilyn Gehrke claimed silver in 1:02.08. 

One of the most impressive performances of the meet came in the men's 100 backstroke where South Dakota swept the podium. Nick Rounds won gold in an NCAA-qualifying, school record, and conference record 45.21, Joaquin Contreras-Fallico took silver in 46.72 and Alt secured bronze in 47.90. 

In diving, freshman Maddox Mork added to the medal count with a third-place finish on the 3-meter board with a score of 318.80. 

Relay events closed the night with more hardware for the Coyotes. The women's 400 medley relay team of Grace Schultz, Buhr, Gabrielle Ahrendt and O'Shea finished second in 3:43.77, and the men's 400 medley relay squad of Contreras-Fallico, Brock Russell, Alt and Rounds capped the session with a gold-medal swim of 3:09.08.
