South Dakota Falls to Wichita State to Conclude Boerner Invitational

ARLINGTON, Texas — In the second meeting against Wichita State this weekend, it was the Shockers taking advantage of four-straight multi-run innings to take the 14-6 victory in six innings to wrap up the Coyotes time at the Boerner Invitational on Sunday morning.

Wichita State 14, South Dakota 6 (F/6)

PITCHING DECISIONS
Win: Gabby Fakes (1-1)
Loss: Campbell German (0-2)

The Shockers struck first in the final game of the tournament down in Arlington, scoring a run in the first inning. The Shockers would go on to score at least three runs in each of the next four innings to take the run-rule victory in six innings.

Trailing 4-0 through three innings, South Dakota got on the board with a bases loaded walk worked by Autumn Iversen to make it 4-1. A passed ball would allow a second run to cross the plate in the frame, as WSU led 4-2 going to the bottom half of the fourth.

Wichita State got their runs back, scoring three in the frame to make it 7-2. Headed to the sixth inning, the Shockers had pushed their lead up to 10-3.

The Coyotes showed some fight in the sixth inning, plating four runs themselves to make it 10-6. Back-to-back RBI singles from Delaney White and Brooke Carey helped cut into the deficit.

Wichita State would use a four-run inning themselves in the sixth inning to bring the game to an end, 14-6.

On the day, Carey led the Yotes with two hits (2-for-3) with an RBI and a walk. In the circle, four different Yotes saw innings. Campbell German got the start and worked the most (1.1 innings).

Up Next: South Dakota heads to the Sunshine state next weekend for five games in Miami, Florida. Hosted by Florida International at their FIU Softball Invitational, the Coyotes will start the weekend with a clash against the Harvard Crimson on Friday, February 27 with a 9 a.m. (CT) first pitch.
