Miami, Fla. — South Dakota softball split a pair of games Friday at the FIU Invite, rallying for a 7-5 win over Harvard before falling 3-0 to Fordham.
South Dakota 7, Harvard 5
South Dakota erased an early deficit in the opener against Harvard. After trailing 5-3 through two innings, the Coyotes chipped away before breaking through in the seventh with three runs to secure the win.
Ella McGee went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Brooke Carey finished 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Madison Evans helped her own cause with a 2-for-4 performance and an RBI, and
Autumn Iversen added a solo home run in the sixth to cut the deficit to one.
Sara Iburg delivered the decisive blow in the seventh with a two-run double, and
Brylee Hempey followed with an RBI single to cap the scoring.
Evans earned the complete-game victory in the circle, tossing seven innings while allowing five runs on eight hits with four strikeouts.

In the second game of the day, Fordham used a two-run first inning and added another run in the second to take early control. The Rams collected eight hits in the 3-0 win
South Dakota recorded five hits, including a 2-for-3 performance from Evans and singles from Carey, Hempey and
Allie Cromer.
Peyton Paulsen took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) over two innings.
Aubrey Lensmeyer provided five strong innings of relief, allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out three.
