LAST TIME OUT: MIZZOU BYE-WEEK GAMES & MIDWEEK GAME
USD went to Columbia to take on Power 4 competition including Iowa State, Minnesota, and Missouri. They left 1-3 on the weekend with a 5-4 win over Minnesota in game three. The Gophers held the Yotes for six innings until they put up an impressive rally in the top of the seventh.
Madison Evans plated the tying and go ahead runs with a triple to cap the rally.
Evans and
Aubrey Lensmeyer combined their efforts in the circle to limit the Gophers and secure the win. Lensmeyer earned the win while Evans was credited with a save.
The Yotes also took on Kansas this Wednesday where they put up a big fight, but ultimately lost 3-4.
Brooke Carey,
Kiya Johnson, and
Sara Iburg had RBIs in the contest, and Iburg led the Yotes going 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored, and an RBI.
IN THE CIRCLE
Evans leads the way in the circle with a 4.38 ERA and 88.0 innings pitched. She's delt 78 strikeouts and given up only 55 earned runs for five complete game wins. Evans leads the Summit League in both innings pitched and strikeouts.
AT THE PLATE
Carey continues to lead the Yotes overall with a .375 average on the season which sits at ninth in the Summit League with 36 hits including nine doubles and 13 RBIs. She has 14 multi-hit games on the season.
Camryn Kersten has jumped to second in team average at .304 with three doubles and 10 RBI this season.
ABOUT SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
South Dakota State enters The Summit League portion of its schedule with a 15-19 overall record. SDSU most recently fell in a doubleheader at Wichita State on Tuesday by 12-5 and 3-1 scores.
Amanda Vacanti leads the Jacks at the plate with a .427 average. Five Jackrabbits have five or more home runs on the season with Akayla Barnard leading at nine.
Madi Mangulis leads in the circle with a 4.17 ERA and 38 strikeouts having pitched the most innings at 48.2.
VS SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
South Dakota and South Dakota State will play for the 165
th time this Friday. The Yotes are 68-96 all-time when playing the Jackrabbits.
Last season the teams faced off five times with a series loss at SDSU's home field (2-1 on the weekend). In the Summit League tournament, the Jacks won 6-5 in a 13 inning contest, and in the second meeting the Yotes won 3-2 in eight innings to go to the Championship.
