VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota men's basketball's head coach
Eric Peterson announced the addition of Josh Townley-Thomas to the 2026-27 roster. The Omaha, Nebraska native transfers to South Dakota after spending the last three years at Creighton.
After appearing in 10 games in his sophomore season at Creighton, Townley-Thomas showed promise at the start of the 2025-26 campaign before suffering a season ending injury in the season opener against South Dakota. He scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting in five minutes against the Coyotes on November 5. Townley-Thomas was named to the NABC Honors Court in 2024-25 and named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team twice. He redshirted his first year at Creighton in 2023-24.
In his freshman season at North Platte CC, Townley-Thomas appeared in 20 games and averaged 4.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 16.9 minutes of action. He corralled 150 total rebounds with 56 off the offensive glass, shot 52.7% from the field and blocked 25 shots.
Townley-Thomas helped lead the Creighton Prep Junior Jays to a state semifinals appearance in 2022.
