VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota men's basketball head coach
Eric Peterson announced the addition of 6'10 center Stef Van Bussell to the 2026-27 roster. The Ommel, Netherlands native, transfers to USD with two years of eligibility remaining after previous stops at Duquesne, College of Charleston and Saint Louis.
Van Bussel appeared in 17 games for the Dukes in 2025-26 and totaled 23 points and 30 rebounds with an 83.3 shooting percentage. He had 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting with six rebounds in 13 minutes of action against Cleary University.
He played in 21 games in his true freshman season at Saint Louis (2023-24). In a win over Rhode Island (3/2/24), Van Bussel set career marks in 26 minutes of action with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Van Bussel redshirted the 2024-25 season at College of Charleston.
Van Bussel played with Basketball Academy Limburg in the Netherlands and Bayer Giants Leverkusen in Germany. While playing in Germany's highlight youth league, the NBBL, Van Bussel averaged 12.1 ppg on 60-percent shooting while averaging 7.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks. Van Bussel has experience on the international level, playing with the Dutch U18 national team in 2021 and 2022. He also played on winning teams in the Dutch national cup in 2020 (U16 and U18) and 2022 (U18).
