VERMILLION, S.D. — South Dakota men's basketball's
Melo Sanchez has been officially invited to be part of the Mexican Men's Senior Basketball Pre-Selection Team, as announced by Mexico Basketball Thursday. If selected for the Men's Senior National Team, Sanchez will represent Mexico in window three of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 Qualifiers.
Sanchez will head to the team's training camp this week, before playing a pair of qualifier games in July. Mexico faces Nicaragua on July 3 and the United States on July 6 in Zacatecas City, Zacatecas. Mexico holds a 2-2 record after splitting the first two windows of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers and holds wins over the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua.
The sharpshooter joined the Coyote roster in May after transferring in from Central Connecticut where he knocked down 59 3-pointer at a 42.8% clip in 2025-26. Sanchez started his career at Hawai'I Pacific where he was an All-PacWest Second Team selection.
