VERMILLION, S.D. — The South Dakota women's soccer team heads back on the road this week for a pair of nonconference matches, beginning Thursday night at Northern Colorado before traveling to Wyoming on Sunday.
The Coyotes will face the Bears at 8 p.m. CT Thursday, Aug. 27, in Greeley, Colorado, before taking on the Cowgirls at 11:30 a.m. CT Sunday, Aug. 30, in Laramie, Wyoming.
THE COYOTES
South Dakota enters the week with a 2-1-1 record following a 3-0 home opening win against Morningside last Sunday. The Coyotes are 3-5-1 against Northern Colorado with their last matchup ending in a 1-1 tie just last season. Against Wyoming, the Coyotes have a record of 2-6-1 with the last result being a 1-1 tie last season.
NORTHERN COLORADO
Northern Colorado enters Thursday's match with a 1-1 record and has been involved in two high-scoring contests to open the season. The Bears have scored two goals while allowing four, averaging 10 shots per match.
Maddie Mori leads the Northern Colorado attack with both of the team's goals, scoring twice on four shots. Lexi Tuite has assisted on both goals and leads the Bears with six shots.
Thordis Melsted has played all 180 minutes in goal for Northern Colorado, recording 12 saves and a .750 save percentage. The Bears have allowed four goals on 29 shots, including 16 shots on goal.
WYOMING
Wyoming brings a 2-1 record into the week and has outscored its opponents 5-2 through three matches. The Cowgirls average 15.7 shots and 5.7 corner kicks per game while allowing just 7.7 shots per contest.
Maddie Burr leads Wyoming with two goals and five points, while Alyssa Glover has recorded a goal and an assist. Reese Gould and Brooke Brown have each added a goal. The Cowgirls have been especially strong in goal behind Haley Bartel, who owns a 2-1 record with a 0.67 goals-against average, seven saves and two shutouts. Wyoming has scored three of its five goals in the second half and has outshot its opponents 47-23 this season.
