LARAMIE, Wyo. — South Dakota women's soccer fell 5-2 to Wyoming Sunday morning at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex, closing out a two-match road swing.
Wyoming (3-2-0) struck first in the fourth minute when Isabel Vasco found the back of the net to give the Cowgirls an early 1-0 advantage.
The Cowgirls added to their lead in the 27th minute as Alyssa Glover scored her first of two goals in the match.
South Dakota (2-2-2) answered just before halftime. In the 41st minute, Sadie Strait scored her second goal of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the break. Brooke Nelson was credited with the assist.
The Coyotes carried the momentum into the second half, but Wyoming quickly extended its lead. Glover scored her second goal in the 61st minute, with Vasco providing the assist. Just 90 seconds later, Vasco found the net for her second goal of the contest to make it 4-1.
South Dakota continued to battle and got back on the scoreboard in the 81st minute when Klarissa Vega scored her first goal of the season.
Wyoming answered less than a minute later to cap the scoring at 5-2.
Wyoming finished the match with a 19-5 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in shots on goal. Cambell Fischer made five saves in goal for the Coyotes.
The Coyotes return home next weekend for their first two-match homestand of the season. South Dakota will host Idaho on Thursday, September 3rd before Senior Day against Drake on September 6th at First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.
