RECAP: Coyotes Take Eighth at Redbird Invitational

NORMAL, Ill. – The South Dakota Women's Golf continued its fall slate at Weibring Golf Club in Bloomington, Ill. for the Redbird Invitational, hosted by Illinois State University. The 13-team event concluded with 18 holes on Monday morning after 36 holes on Sunday.
 
Six Coyote golfers participated in the 54-hole event with five starters and one individual with the top four starters scores counted for the team total.
 
After ending Day 1 in 8th place, the Coyotes held position the entirety of round three as the Yotes finished 8th in the 13-team field.
 
THE FIRST DAY
Senior Ella Greenberg picked up right where she left off from last week, shooting an even par through the first 36 holes. After shooting a 72 in the first round, the Rockford, Ill. native used four birdies and an eagle on the 18th hole to finish the day in a tie for fourth.
 
Senior Ava Schroeder improved three shots between rounds, shooting a 74 in the afternoon portion of the day.
 
Freshman Savannah Cagle, who competed as the Coyotes lone individual, made birdie a career-high six times to finish the day in the top 20 in the field of 78.
 
The Yotes shot seven strokes better as a team in the second round (299) than in the first (306) to finish the day in 8th place with their total of 605 strokes.
 
THE SECOND DAY
Day two went like Sunday's morning session on the course as the Yotes shot a 307 for the day.
 
Freshman KayLynn Jorgensen made birdie three times in nine holes to begin her day en route to shooting her second 76 of the invitational.

Senior Ella Greenberg finished the tournament tied for ninth place, marking her second consecutive top-10 finish of the season.
 
As a team, South Dakota made eight birdies on the day, averaging a round score of 78.2.
 
The Yotes claimed 8th place as a group with its three-round total of 912, just one shot shy of seventh-place Northern Illinois and nine shots better than ninth-place Indiana State.
 
STEADY SCHROEDER 
Senior Ava Schroeder made her fourth appearance at the Redbird Invitational. Coming into the three-round event, she averaged a 76 in nine rounds at Weibring Golf Club with steady improvement over the years. 
 
She improved it in her final trip to Bloomington-Normal.
 
Schroeder posted a round three score of 74, the same as her afternoon round on Sunday and three shots better than Sunday morning for an average of 75. The senior finished in a tie for 18th in the field of 78 golfers.
 
The Colorado Springs native made a weekend best two birdies on Monday morning, both on Par 4s. 
 
She will once again look to improve at a familiar course next week at the Johnnie Imes Invitational.
 
NEXT UP
The Coyotes head to the Show Me State for the 2026 Johnnie Imes Invitational hosted by the University of Missouri at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
 
The 9-team event begins on Monday, September 21 and concludes Tuesday, September 22. 
 
Last season, South Dakota finished eighth in the 13-team field.
