MADISON, Wis. — South Dakota men's golf finished tied for seventh at the Badger Invitational, carding an 867 (+3) over three days, and three rounds.
The Coyotes opened the tournament with a 292 (+4) before improving to an even-par 288 in the second round and closing with a 287 (-1) in Tuesday's final round. South Dakota finished tied with North Dakota for seventh place in the 19-team field.
Cole Witherow led the Coyotes with a runner-up finish, carding an 11-under 205. Witherow opened with a 2-under 70 before firing a 5-under 67 in the second round and a 4-under 68 in the final round. The runner-up finish marked the second second-place finish of Witherow's collegiate career.
Christopher Whittle finished tied for 29th at 2-over 218 after rounds of 75, 71 and 72. Joe Rohlwing tied for 57th at 6-over 222, carding rounds of 73, 74 and 75.
Jack Holtz finished tied for 65th at 7-over 223 after rounds of 74, 77 and 72, while Parker Etzel tied for 90th at 15-over 231 with rounds of 80, 76 and 75.
Southern Miss won the team title at 23-under 841, while South Dakota State finished second at 17-under 847. Wisconsin and Western Kentucky tied for third at 9-under 855.
South Dakota returns to action next week on Monday, October 5th at the Kemper Lakes Intercollegiate in Kildeer, Illinois.
