Ochoa named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week

09.08.2026

NEW ORLEANS, La. — After a blistering 14:14.1 time in the 5k at the Augustana Twilight Friday night, Isaac Ochoa earned South Dakota cross country's first USTFCCCA M-F Athletic National Athlete of the Week in program history.

Ochoa won the Augustana Twilight in 14:14.1 Friday night, besting the second-place runner by over 11 seconds. He is the first Summit League athlete to win the USTFCCCA award on the men's side since Oral Roberts' Abraham Chelangam won the award to start the 2024 season, and the first overall since Jadyn Keeler of North Dakota won the honor in September of 2025.

Ochoa is the first South Dakota cross country athlete to win a weekly USTFCCCA award based on available records (dating back to 2013 on the USTFCCCA website). He's also just the third Coyote overall to receive a USTFCCCA weekly award in cross country or track and field, joining Chris Nilsen (four times) and Emily Grove (once).
