USD Students Studying

Academic Advising

Three Advisors assist student athletes in choosing a major, selecting and registering for classes, and monitoring NCAA eligibility from freshmen year through graduation. Their expertise and knowledge of USD programs and NCAA eligibility ensures that student athletes make progress toward their degree in a timely manner.  The SASC Advisors provide a bridge between the Athletics and Academic departments for the student athletes, assisting with communication regarding missed class due to team travel and other areas of concern for student athletes. They are a "One Stop Shop" for student athletes in all things USD!

Tutors

Tutors are available in an array of subject areas and assist student athletes who may be struggling in a particular class. They are available at monitored study times or in individually scheduled appointments for the convenience of the student athlete. Students can sign up for a tutor here.

Academic Coaches

The SASC provides mentors who meet weekly with student athletes to ease the transition from high school to college. Academic coaches help student athletes prioritize their academic responsibilities and teach time management skills.

Coyote Academic Pride (CAP)

To help with time management and assuring student athletes prioritize their academic pursuits, monitored study time is available Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Travel Reminders

The Academic Advisors for each athletic team hand out schedules that include a letter from them and a calendar with all of the home and away games, to their assigned student athletes. The athletes are given the task to present their professors with the schedule on the first day of the semester letting them know the specific days they will not be able to attend class due to representing their team on the road. This helps athletes create relationships with their professors by communicating with them right from the start.
