The 2017 season will be the third for Felts, a USD graduate who earned his master's degree in the summer of 2016. Felts works primarily with running backs and fullbacks. He organizes practice drills and provides play instruction. He also helps prepare scouting reports for players and coaches on future opponents.

Originally from LeMars, Iowa, Felts attended Remsen-Union High School as class valedictorian with a 4.0 grade point average. In high school, Felts was part of the winningest football class in school history with a combined record of 32-11. He was a three-time all-district performer and a three-time district champion. Felts was a Wendy’s Heisman state finalist and National Merit Scholar semifinalist.

Felts coached running backs and linebackers at Remsen-Union in 2012 and 2013 while taking classes at USD. He was responsible for organizing scout team defense during practice and participated in offensive and defensive game planning each week.

Felts received his bachelor’s degree in medical biology and minored in interdisciplinary studies at USD. His master's degree was in kinesiology and sport science.
