Eddie Hill

Eddie Hill joined the South Dakota men's basketball staff as an Assistant Coach in September 2021.

Hill is entering his 8th season as an Assistant Coach at the Division I level. He most recently served 3 seasons as the Co-Head Coach of the ProSkills 17U Nike EYBL team in Dallas, Texas. He handled all opponent scouting, game plan creation, substitutions, and in-game adjustments. In 2021 Hill led ProSkills to a 12-1 EYBL record and Quarterfinal appearance in the Nike Peach Jam. During the 2018-19 season Hill was named Head Basketball Coach and General Manager for the Plano Mighty Kings in the ABA. In that role, Hill was tasked with building and coaching a new ABA professional basketball team in Plano, Texas.

In 2002 Hill became an Executive Recruiter at Kaye/Bassman Intl., reaching the position of Managing Partner prior to starting and managing his own executive search firm 2inspire Recruiting Ltd. since 2006.

Prior to 2002 Hill spent 7 seasons as an Assistant Basketball Coach at the University of Portland, University of Texas-El Paso, San Jose State University and Cal State University Northridge. As Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator, Hill’s University of Portland 2001 recruiting class was ranked first in the West Coast Conference. This was Hill’s second stint in Portland after being on staff as an Assistant Coach in 1995 and helping lead the Pilots to their 1st ever WCC Tournament Championship and 1st NCAA tournament bid in 37 years. In 2 seasons at UTEP as Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator, Hill helped lead the Miners to a 23-9 record and a 2nd round appearance in the 2001 NIT. His 2000 recruiting class at UTEP ranked 36th nationally by Hoop Scoop. Hill also led nationally ranked recruiting classes at San Jose St. in 1999 (ranked 17th) and Cal State Northridge in 1997 (ranked 35th). Hill got his start in coaching at the University of Portland in 1995 as he assisted with on-campus recruiting activities and post player development.

Hill had a decorated college basketball playing career at Washington State University from 1990-1994. Playing all 4 years under current University of Houston Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, Hill helped the Cougars to an NIT bid in 1992 and NCAA Tournament berth in 1994, when he served as team captain. During his senior season he set school career (233) and single-season (83) records for 3-point field goals made. Hill finished his career as WSU’s 8th All-Time leading scorer with 1,242 points and a career best 14.7ppg (10th in Pac10) during his junior season. Hill earned a Pac 10 “Player of the Week” honor as a senior and was WSU recipient of the 1993 “Jack Friel Defensive Player of the Year” and 1991 “George Raveling Rookie of the Year” awards. Hill’s WSU career 3pt field goals made record was broken in 2011 by current Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson.

Hill earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Washington State in 1994. Eddie and his wife of 26 years, Simone, have three sons: Darius 24, Marcus 21, and Tyus 19. Darius, who played baseball and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management at West Virginia University, was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 2019, and is currently playing AA baseball in the Cubs organization. Marcus is currently a sophomore on the St Edwards University Men’s Basketball team in Austin, Texas. Tyus is a sophomore Broadcast Journalism major at the University of North Texas.
