Ashton spent the 2018-19 season as an assistant coach at Kirkwood Community College, helping guide the Eagles to the 2019 NJCAA Division II National Championship with a 31-4 record. He coached Douglas Wilson to a pair of All-America honors (NABC & NJCAA) while also earning Region XI MVP honors. In all, three Eagles earned all-region accolades under Ashton’s tutelage.

A graduate of Kirkwood, Ashton was named a first-team All-American in 2014-15 while obtaining his associate’s degree in Liberal Arts. He then earned his bachelor’s degree at Iowa State while playing in 24 games for the Cyclones. He then completed his collegiate eligibility at Northern Iowa as a graduate transfer.

He averaged a team-best 37.6 minutes per game in Missouri Valley Conference contests for the Panthers while sinking a team-high 34 3-point baskets. On the season, he started 21 of 30 games and hit 43 percent of his 3-point field goal attempts.

A native of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Ashton is the 2012 Class 3A Player of the Year in Iowa.
