Josh Calbert

Josh Calbert was hired as the director of recruting for the South Dakota men's basketball program in September of 2022. 

Calbert comes to South Dakota after serving as the director and coach of West Coast Elite Basketball. He recruited participants for the National Under Armour Circuit team while designing and implementing effective offensive and defensive plays. Calbert established a top five ranking for UAA 16U programs throughout the west coast. 

Prior to his time at West Coast Elite, Calbert spent time as an assistant and head coach in the high school ranks. He first started as the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant coach at Deer Valley High School during the 2012-13 season. While at Deer Valley, Calbert maintained a winning record of 20-8 and won a junior varsity league championship while assisting the varsity squad to a league title as well. After his time at Deer Valley, Calbert went on to be an assistant coach at Salesian College Preparatory in Richmond, California. There he designed workouts year-round for varsity players, coodinated workout strategies with strength personnel, and helped prepare daily practice schedules with an emphasis on execution of offensive and defensive schemes. 

Calbert has worked with many highly-noted recruits in college basketball including many in the top 100 on 247 Sports. He most notably worked with James Akinjo who was named the 2019 Big East Freshman of the Year at Georgetown before becoming a starter for Baylor in his lone season with the Bears in 2021-22. Calbert is a native of Pittsburg, California.
