Lloyd Williams enters his second year as an assistant coach for the South Dakota men's basketball team in 2013-2014 season. Williams' commitment to the team involves a series of jobs for the program on and off the floor. Williams' involvement includes recruiting student athletes, which requires a great deal of evaluation of players from all over the United States. He keeps the program organized by breaking down film, keeping the athletes academically sound, and planning for games.
Before arriving in Vermillion, Williams spent the 2011-12 season as the head basketball coach at Muskogee High School in Muskogee, Okla., where he led his team to a championship and organized basketball camps at the 6A level.
Williams spent four seasons on the coaching staff at Rogers State University in Claremore, Okla. He began as an assistant coach for the 2006-07 academic year, was promoted to associate head coach prior to the Hillcats' inaugural season, and was named head coach prior to the 2008-09 campaign. In his two seasons at the helm, Rogers State was 52-13, ranked No. 1 for eight consecutive weeks and won a Sooner Athletic Conference regular season and tournament championship. Williams was named SAC Coach of the Year in 2009, after posting a 21-1 conference record.
Williams' coaching career began as an assistant at his alma mater, University of Texas at San Antonio, in 2001. He served on staff when head coach Tim Carter became the winningest coach in the Southland Conference. Williams spent four seasons at UTSA before moving to Oklahoma where he served as head freshmen boys coach at Jenks High School during the 2005-06 season.
Williams graduated from UTSA in 2001 after majoring in kinesiology. He graduated as the Roadrunners' all-time leader in assists and steals following a brilliant four-year career in UTSA's starting lineup. Williams served as team captain all four seasons, earned all-Southland Conference honors, and was named team MVP following the 1999-2000 season.
