Made immediate impact as a true freshman...appeared in all 33 of USD's games, including 28 starts...averaged 26.2 minutes of action which helped him average 9.6 points and 6.8 rebounds per game...shot a team-best 58.2 percent from the floor...named Great West Player of the Week (12/20/10)...posted a season-high of 22 points on 80.0 percent shooting against Tabor College (12/13/10)...scored in double figures in 15 games...had three games where he pulled down a season high of 14 rebounds, with the last being against North Dakota (02/05/11)... recorded three double-doubles during the season with the first coming in only his sixth game as a Coyote against Louisiana-Monroe (11/28/10).
Prep
Named to the Class 1A All-Tournament team after helping Ellsworth to a third-place finish in Minnesota's Class 1A...Panthers finished 27-6 and beat Rushford-Peterson, 70-62 to take home third...in three games at the state tournament, Gruis averaged 15 points and 15.1 rebounds and recorded double-doubles in all three games...was also a finalist for Mr. Basketball for the state of Minnesota...as a junior he led the Panthers in rebounds, blocks and assists by averaging 17 points, 11 rebounds and five assists per game, while Ellsworth posted a 28-4 record and second-place finish at state...named to the Fab 40 for the state of Minnesota by Minnesota Breakdown, while earning all-state tournament, all-conference, all-area and all-state honors...as a sophomore, the 6-foot-9 Gruis averaged 15 points and 10 rebounds per game to assist Ellsworth to its second-straight state title with a 30-2...named to the all-area, all-conference and all-state tournament team...also part of a Panther squad that went 31-3 to capture a state tile during his freshman year.
