South Dakota alum Jake Knowles was named an assistant coach for swimming and diving on August 8, 2018. Knowles previously spent the 2017-18 season as a graduate assistant.
Knowles, a 2017 USD graduate, works with both the sprint group and the breaststroke. In his first season as a graduate assistant coach, the Coyote men finished runner-up at the 2018 Summit League Championships.

A native of Lockport, Illinois, Knowles received his bachelor's degree in kinesiology and sport science. During his four years as a Coyote, he posted nine top-10 finishes at the Summit League Championships. Knowles specialized in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, graduating with school records in both events.
