Jason Cowley joined South Dakota’s sports information staff in the fall of 2018 following nearly two decades of service as a sports writer and a variety of experiences as a coach, official and administrator. Cowley has served as the main contact for Coyote volleyball, swimming and diving, and tennis. He will be the main contact for the Coyotes' indoor track and field team during the 2022-23 academic year.
Cowley began working as a writer and page coordinator for the Sioux City Journal in 1999, shortly after graduating from Sioux City West High School. He continued working for the Journal throughout college and up until early 2018. He majored in business administration and minored in mass communication at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City.
Cowley served as an assistant coach at West for eight years, working with the boys and girls track programs and with the girls basketball program. He was the head boys basketball coach at West Sioux High School from 2008-09.
Cowley is an active official in the sports of volleyball, football, track and field, cross country and softball. He has been an activities supervisor at West, a media relations representative for USA Hockey National Junior Team, and an NAIA National Division II Basketball Tournament statistical assistant.
