Jay Hennies, who came out of retirement to become an assistant coach on Chad Lavin's women's basketball staff, is in his seventh season at South Dakota in 2004-05. A retired public school teacher, Hennies taught and coached at Vermillion High School for 16 years. The former Vermillion High School boys basketball coach led Vermillion to back-to-back state championships in 1988 and 1989. He graduated from USD and played for the Coyotes from 1962-66.
Hennies and his wife, Mary Lee Hennies, have two grown sons, Jason and Sam.
