VERMILLION, S.D. - After a thrilling 24-19 win over then-No. 22 Southern Utah Saturday in the DakotaDome, the South Dakota football team moved up to 14th in the latest FCS Coaches' Poll, released Monday. The Coyotes now have been ranked five consecutive weeks in the poll marking the longest streak and highest ranking since transitioning to Division I.

South Dakota and Coastal Carolina made the biggest jump as both moved up four spots this week. The Coyotes were 18th entering the SUU game, while Chanticleers went from 24th to 20th after a 34-10 win over Virginia Military.

The top five teams remained the same as Georgia Southern, of the Southern Conference, garnered 26 of the 28 first-place votes, while Northern Iowa out of the Missouri Valley Football Conference had the other two. Montana State of the Big Sky Conference is third, followed by Wofford, also of the Southern Conference, and North Dakota State also of the MVFC.

New Hampshire moved to sixth, followed by Appalachian State, Delaware, Lehigh and Jacksonville State rounded out the top ten. North Dakota moved up two spots to 18th after its 42-9 win over Montana-Western as the only other Great West Conference team ranked, while Southern Utah is receiving votes.

The Coyotes (4-2, 1-0 Great West) travel to Missouri Valley Football Conference member Illinois State (3-3, 2-2 MVFC) this Saturday for a 3 p.m. kickoff versus the Redbirds in Normal, Ill. Illinois State, who is receiving votes this week, is coming off of a 38-13 come-from-behind win at Missouri State Saturday. The Redbirds were down 13-3 at halftime and scored 35 second half points including 28 points in the fourth quarter for the win.

South Dakota then returns home, and to Great West Conference play, Oct. 22 for a 4 p.m. kick versus UC Davis in the DakotaDome.

South Dakota joins the Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2012.
