Men, Women Split Against St. Cloud State In Swimming & Diving

VERMILLION, S.D. - The University of South Dakota men's swimming and diving team opened their season with a 113-75 dual-meet victory over St. Cloud State University Saturday, Nov. 4 in the DakotaDome. USD's women's team lost to St. Cloud State 132-90.

For the men's team, Chad Gohman won both the 1- and 3-meter diving competitions. Other first place winners included Clint Eckhardt, 200 free, Ben Britton, 50 free, Tyler Hartl, 200 individual medley, Torey Melton, 100 fly, and Jason Foster, 800 free. USD also won the 400 medley relay (Andrew Fleek, David Nelson, Torey Melton, and Tyler Hartl) in a record setting time of 4:07.28. The performance broke a 1993 school record.

For the women, Sara Hamlet won the 800 free, Molly Connolly the 200 free and Sara Pokela the 100 backstroke. The Coyotes also won the 400 medley relay (Ashley Shaper, Sanami Fottral, Sara Pokela, and Jill Stensby).
