As the North Central Conference season opens for both the University of South Dakota men's and the women's basketball teams this weekend, some familiar faces will try to rediscover their basketball wares of days gone by.
The University of South Dakota men's and women's basketball programs will host a Coyote Hoops Alumni Weekend this Friday and Saturday, featuring alumni games Saturday afternoon. Basketball alumni will battle each other on the court with a women's alumni game at 1 p.m. followed by a men's game at 3:30 p.m. in the DakotaDome. The games precede the NCC matchups between USD and St. Cloud State (women's game at 6 p.m., men's game at 8 p.m.). Both teams play Minnesota State, Mankato Friday night at the same times.
Women alumni planning to participate include Heidi Nesheim, Julie Ehret Greenfield, Sheila Prosser, Amy Heismeyer, Chris Fehring, Kristi Baake, Mary Joneson, Natalee Heisler, Jodi Pipes Altenburg, Lesley Hale DeHeer, Shelby Peterson Mayer, Heather Ortman Chambers, Allycia Gerwing, Angie Heisler, Trina Hansen, Beth Vilhauer, Carrie Ven Osdel Mart and Stacy Kracht Huber.
Men's basketball alumni planning to play include Ron Pederson, Karl Adam, Chuck Welke, Joey James, Roger Nelson, Mike Graves, Ryan Martin, Robert Swanhorst, Mike Wojcik, Chris Jones, Randy Rosenquist, Loren DeKruyf, Ben Ries, Shane Murphy, Mike Kloth and Troy Terronez.
"We are anticipating that more than 20 women and the same number of men will participate in the alumni games," said women's coach Chad Lavin, who along with men's coach Dave Boots and their respective staffs pulled together for this special weekend.
A Coyotes basketball alumni reception will be held at Leo's Lounge in downtown Vermillion following the men's game Saturday night.
