Tommie King, a senior forward for the South Dakota Coyotes men's basketball team, has been named the North Central Conference Men's Player of the Week, according to an announcement today by the league office.
King (Seattle, Wash.), averaged 27.5 points and 9.5 rebounds as South Dakota won two nonconference games this weekend, defeating Northern State, 95-87 in OT on Saturday (Dec. 7) and Bellevue (Dec. 8), 88-67 on Sunday.
King had 29 points and 11 rebounds in the win vs. Northern State. He also had two assists and two steals. King hit 11 of 18 field goals and six of eight free throws vs. the Wolves.
On Sunday (Dec. 8), King had 26 points and eight rebounds to lead USD to the win over Bellevue. King, who is now shooting 62.7 percent from the field this season, hit seven of 11 field goals and all 12 of his free throws. He had three assists and a block vs. Bellevue. He was part of a Coyote team that made a school record 21 straight free throws in the game, which is a new school record.
The Coyotes, who are hitting 81.5 percent from the foul line, have made 33 straight free throws dating back to the game with Northern State. King is averaging 20.6 points per game this season for South Dakota.
South Dakota, which is 5-0 for the second straight year, has now won 66 consecutive home nonconference games. The Coyotes will face Concordia St-Paul (0-5) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10 in St. Paul, Minn.
