VERMILLION, S.D. (February 6, 2002) - Yvette Greer Albrecht of Redfield, S.D., and Doug Shull of Indianola, Iowa, will be honored during a special ceremony following Graphic Edge Alumni Open on Saturday, Feb. 9. The University of South Dakota track & field program will host a banquet at Pro's following the meet beginning at 4:30 p.m. Albrecht and Schull will be honored with the Track & Field/Cross Country Honor Award.

The meet, which will include events for high school athletes running unattached and South Dakota alumni, features 21 college teams. Those teams include Augustana, Briar Cliff, Chadron State, Concordia, Highland Community College, Dakota State, Dakota Wesleyan, Dana, Dordt, Fort Hays State, Highland Community College, Midland Lutheran, Morningside, Mount Marty, Northwestern, South Dakota Tech, South Dakota, Nebraska Omaha, Sioux Falls and Wayne State. At Saturday night's banquet, Terry Weaver, the first women's track and field coach at South Dakota, will introduce Greer Albrecht at the Track & Field Banquet. Weaver coached Greer Albrecht when she was a standout sprinter for South Dakota from 1979 to 1982. While at South Dakota, Greer Albrecht won five NCC titles. Greer Albrecht was the first women's all-American for South Dakota when she finished fourth in the 100m hurdles at the 1982 NCAA Division II outdoor meet. Currently, Greer Albrecht is the head coach of the 2001 state champion Redfield High School girls track and field team. "I had a wonderful bunch of young ladies that did more than perform.
