EUGENE Ore. – A trio of South Dakota pole vaulters are set to compete at the NCAA Championships Wednesday and Thursday in Eugene.
Â
Caelan Harland will represent the USD men Wednesday in the pole vault at 5:35 p.m. Pacific Time (7:35 p.m. Central) while
Marleen Mülla and
Anna Willis are set to compete in the women's pole vault at the same time on Thursday.
Â
Harland is making his first trip to the NCAA Championships, but it will not be his first time competing at Hayward Field in Eugene. Harland competed at the USA Track and Field U20 Championships last summer and was runner-up. He is looking for his first all-American honor in his freshman season.
Â
Mülla is looking to put a bow on her Coyote career with some history. Seeded one of the top five athletes in the field, she is going for a seventh all-American honor and third outdoor. Fresh off a runner-up finish during the indoor season, she would become the first Coyote woman in Division I history to earn seven all-American honors.
Â
Willis is returning to Eugene with her eyes set on another top five finish at an NCAA Championship. Seeded second in the field, Willis placed fourth at last year's outdoor championships and third at the indoor championships this March. This would be her third straight season with an all-American honor.
All three Coyotes will be looking to join an exclusive list of National Champions at USD. South Dakota has two Division I National Champions, Bethany (Firsick) Buell (2013 outdoor) and Chris Nilsen (2017 indoor, 2018 & 2019 outdoor).
Â
Highlights from the action this week will be available to watch on ESPN and ESPN2. There is also a dedicated broadcast for the pole vault competitions on ESPN+. Broadcasts begin at 7 p.m. Central time. Live results can be found on Flash Results.
