ORLANDO, FLA. (March 15, 2002) - The University of South Dakota women's swimming & diving team moved into 13th place (28 points) after the second day (March 14) of competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships at the YMCA Aquatic Center in Orlando, Fla. Truman State leads the women's scores with 382 points. The South Dakota men's squad remains in 17th place with 28 points. California State-Bakersfield is leading the men's division with 279 points.
The women's 200-yard free relay finished 11th (1:38.64). That relay included senior Sara Pokela (Akron, Iowa), sophomore Kari Kopecky (Roosevelt, Minn.), sophomore Molly Connolly (Elkhorn, Neb.), and freshman Audrey Donley (Golden, Colo.). The same squad also finished 13th in the 400-yard medley relay (4:01.55) in Thursday's events.
For the men's team, freshman diver Jesse Lee (Coon Rapids, Minn.) was 13th in the 1-meter diving competition, scoring 303.40 points. The 400-yard medley relay, which included freshman Tim Byers (Billings, Mont.), freshman Dirk Craft (Palmer, Alaska), freshman Matt Lind (Kearney, Neb.), and junior Tyler Hartl (Billings, Mont.), was 11th with a time of 3:25.96.
The meet continues through Saturday, March 16 with the 500-yard free, 100-yard back, 100-yard breast, 200-yard fly, 1-meter diving (women), 800-yard free relay scheduled for Friday. Saturday's events include the 1,650-yard free, 100-yard free, 200-yard back, 200-yard breast, 3-meter diving (men) and the 400-yard free relay.
