Tim Byers and Dan Gay of The University of South Dakota swimming and diving team were named North Central Conference Swimming and Diving Athletes of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office on Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Byers, a junior captain from Billings, Mont., won two individual titles and was a member of two winning relays as USD won three of four meets in Denver, Colo. on Nov. 21-22. He won the 200 back with a time of 2:00.49 and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team in the quad meet on Friday, Nov. 21 at Denver University. Byers also won the 100 back (:55.38) and was part of the winning 400 medley relay team in a dual meet win (114-54) over with Metro State on Saturday, Nov. 22
Gay, a sophomore from Fairbury, Neb., won four individual diving titles as the South Dakota men's swimming and diving team won three of four meets in competitions in Denver, Colo., on Friday and Saturday. In a quad meet in which USD posted a 153-68 win over Colorado School of Mines, 167-39 win over Metro State, and a 121-106 loss to Division I Denver, Gay won both the 1-meter (223.10) and 3-meter (206.30) diving competitions. Then on Saturday, he won the 1-meter (218.90) competition and 3-meter diving competition (248.05) in the dual win over Metro State.
