VERMILLION, S.D. -- South Dakota women's basketball All-American
Mandy Koupal of Wagner, S.D., will likely set the University of South Dakota's career scoring mark tonight against Briar Cliff. Gametime at the DakotaDome is 6 p.m.
Koupal needs three points to pass career leader Karrie Wallen, a member of the USD Coyote Sports Hall of Fame and a native of Britt, Iowa.
Koupal will establish a new career scoring mark in just 73 games or 2.5 seasons of play. During her time at USD, Koupal has led USD to a 57-15 record. She is averaging 21.4 points and 9.9 rebounds in 2003-04 when USD is 11-1. In her career, she is averaging over 22 points and 10 rebounds an outing. An interesting sidelight to this record, current USD head women's coach Chad Lavin coached both Koupal and Wallen, as well as Ann Pancoast, who is third all-time and Heather Nelson, fifth on the list.
