VERMILLION, S.D. - - The University of South Dakota women's basketball team had five players in score in double figures in an 83-47 win over Bemidji State Sunday in Vermillion, S.D.
The win marked the first-ever win at USD for Coyote head coach Ryun Williams.
USD was led by Bridget Yoerger (Sr., Hinton, Iowa), who recorded her second straight double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Maggie Youngberg (Sr., Yankton, S.D.) added a career-high 18 points as she hit 6-of-11 three-pointers. Annie Roche (RFr., Vermillion, S.D.), added a career-best 14 points, while Kelli Fargen (Jr., Brookings, S.D.) added a career-high 12 points. Natalie Carda (Sr., Beresford, S.D.) chipped in with 11 points.
A day after struggling shooting from the outside against Northwest Missouri State, the Coyotes were red-hot from three-point range, hitting 13-of-28 three-point attempts.
USD built a 30-22 halftime lead but went on a big run in the second half to put the game out of reach. A 17-5 spurt, which included two three-pointers by Youngberg and one by Carda, helped USD built a 58-31 advantage with 11:04 left in the game.
The Coyotes followed that with a 17-4 spurt, which included threes from Ashley Wiemann (Sr., Vermillion, S.D.) and Youngberg, to build a commanding 74-35 lead with 7:53 left in the game.
USD was 9-of-13 from three-point range in the second half and outscored Bemidji 53-25. Yoerger had 12 points and nine rebounds in the first half as USD built an eight-point halftime lead.
For the game, USD shot 49.3 percent from the field (33-of-67), compared to 35.8 percent for Bemidji State.
Jasmine Mosley (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.) had a career-high eight rebounds for USD, while Carda had six rebounds. Roche had six assists for USD while Mosley had five assists and four steals.
USD's next game is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
