Yoerger's Double-Double Leads USD to Win Over Northwestern College

ORANGE CITY, IOWA - The University of South Dakota women's basketball team had four players score in double-figures to lead the Coyotes to a 69-61 victory over Northwestern College on Wednesday evening in Orange City, Iowa.

South Dakota, which improved to 2-1 overall, was led by Bridget's Yoerger's (Sr., Hinton, Iowa) double-double performance of 21 points and 10 rebounds. That marks her third double-double of the season.

Maggie Youngberg (Sr., Yankton, S.D.) was hot from the outside as she added 15 points as she was 5-of-6 from three-point range. Jasmine Mosley (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.) and Annie Roche (RFr., Vermillion, S.D.) each contributed 11 points and five rebounds for the Coyotes.

Natalie Carda (Sr., Beresford, S.D.) was second on the team with six rebounds, while Ashley Wiemann (Sr., Vermillion, S.D.) led the team with four assists and had two steals.

The Coyotes, who never trailed in the second half, went on a 12-0 run in the beginning of the second half which began with a Jasmine Mosley lay-up at the 15-minute mark ended three minutes later on a 3-pointer from Maggie Youngberg to put USD up 49-35.

In the first half however, Northwestern College went on a 10-0 run of its own to gain 26-18 lead with 7:03 remaining in the first 20 minutes of play. USD battled back as they ended the first half on a 15-4 run capped off by an Annie Roche lay-up at the buzzer to put the Coyotes up 33-31 at halftime.

USD finished the game out-rebounded the Red Raiders 34-28 but was plagued by turnovers as they committed 23 in the game. The Coyotes finished the game shooting 48.9 percent from the field compared to Northwestern's 35.4 field goal shooting percentage.

Northwestern, now 4-4 overall, was led by Val Kleinjan's 11 points.

The Coyotes will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 4 p.m. against the University of Minnesota-Duluth. The game will be played in the Vermillion High School.
