STORM LAKE, IOWA - The University of South Dakota women's basketball team continued its winning streak Tuesday night, defeating Buena Vista University 75-66 in Storm Lake, Iowa.
The Coyotes improve to 5-1 overall as they won their fifth straight game, while Buena Vista falls to 2-2 on the season with the loss.
Bridget Yoerger (Sr. Hinton, Iowa) led USD with 20 points and nine rebounds in the contest. She went 7-for-10 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. Her performance marks the sixth game Yoerger has recorded 20-plus points.
Ashley Wiemann (Sr., Vermillion, S.D.) was the second of three players to record double-digit points. Wiemann drained five three-pointers to tally a season-high 18 points. Annie Roche (RFr., Vermillion, S.D.) added 12 points as she was 4-for-10 from the field and 3-for-3 from the free-throw line. Roche also led the team in assists with five.
Jasmine Mosley (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.) chipped in seven points and eight rebounds, while Maggie Youngberg (Sr., Yankton, S.D.) contributed nine points.
USD got things rolling right away going on a 5-0 run to start the game as Yoerger hit a jumper which was followed by a three-pointer from Weimann. The Coyotes continued to dominate as they put together an 8-0 run which began at 14-minute mark in the first half and ended on a Roche lay-up.
The Coyotes went into halftime leading 37-25. South Dakota, which led entire game, then took its largest lead with 15:32 remaining in the second half. The Coyotes went up by 19 after a lay-up from by Bridget Yoerger off an assist from Youngberg.
USD never looked back as they finished the game shooting 45.5 percent from the field (25-of-55) and 50 percent from three-point range (10-of-20) and edged BVU in rebounding 35-34.
The Beavers finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field (27-of-60) and were led by Jenn Schumann's 16 point and eight-rebound performance.
The Coyotes will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 29 at home against Dixie State College at 1 p.m. in the DakotaDome.
