Three Coyotes Named to Academic All-NCC Women's At-Large Team

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Jill Smolczyk, Emilie Kluth and Leita Rolfe of The University of South Dakota have been named to the 2007-08 Academic All-North Central Conference Women's At-Large Team. The NCC announced its 12-member squad on Thursday.

Smolczyk, Kluth and Rolfe are seniors who helped lead the Coyote women's swimming and diving squad to a ninth place team finish at the 2008 NCAA Division II nationals. Smolczyk (Omaha, Neb.) was named to the academic all-league squad for the third straight year while Kluth (Columbus, Neb.) was honored for the second straight season. This is Rolfe's (Newcastle, Wyo.) first selection to the academic team. All three USD student-athletes have also been named to the NCC Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for three straight years.

A six-time All-American in women's swimming and diving, Smolczyk was selected to receive a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship this spring. In March, she was named the NCAA Division II Women's Diver of the Year after winning a national title in 1-meter diving and finishing second on the 3-meter board at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships. Smolczyk, who has a 3.833 GPA in psychology, won the 1-meter and 3-meter diving titles at the NCC Championships. She was named the NCC Women's Diver of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Throughout her career, Smolczyk won four NCC diving titles and set five school records. A member of the swimming and diving program's Unity Council, she was named to the ESPN The Magazine Women's Academic All District VII At Large Squad in 2007. This spring, she received a SAAC Courage Award and was named USD's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Kluth was also the recipient of a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship this spring. A two-time All-American in diving, she finished fourth in 1-meter diving at the 2008 swimming and diving national meet. She has also received two honorable mention All-American honors while qualifying for nationals all four years of her competitive career at The U.

An English major, she has a 3.841 GPA and served as the Co-President for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2007-08. Kluth was the recipient of a Coyote Character Award at the 2008 Student Awards Ceremony.

Rolfe, who owns a 3.38 GPA in English/secondary education, earned seven All-American honors at USD. Named the 2008 NCC Co-Swimmer of the Meet, she won three individual titles (200 breaststroke, 200 IM, 400 IM) and also swam on the record-breaking 400-medley relay at the NCC Championship.

During the NCAA Division II nationals, Rolfe earned four All-American awards, including three individual honors (400 IM, second; 200 IM, seventh; 200 breaststroke, eighth). Rolfe, who also has received 12 honorable mention All-American honors, is also a member of the Swimming and Diving Team's Unity Council.
