Five Former Coyotes Football Players Enjoy Big Weekend

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Five former members of The University of South Dakota football team played vital roles in their team's success this past weekend. Mark Blackburn, Andre Fields, Adam Hicks and Tim Schneider all played key roles in the Sioux Falls Storm's fourth-straight UIF United Bowl title on Saturday. Meanwhile, north of the border, Stefan Logan ran for 140 yards in the BC Lions first win of the season in the CFL.

Blackburn was named MVP of the United Bowl after recording 4.5 tackles. Two of those tackles came in a huge goal line stand in the third quarter, shifting the momentum in favor of the Storm, as they went on to win 40-35 over the Bloomington Extreme. He also knocked down a pass attempt in the end zone.

Fields finished the game with 10 tackles and gave the Storm their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter when he returned a blocked field goal 30 yards for a touchdown. Hicks was 2-of-3 on field goal attempts and 4-of-5 on extra point attempts. Schneider, who started on the offensive line in the title game, won his first United Bowl just over a month after joining the team. The Storm offensive line helped the team gain 91 yards on the ground and held the Bloomington defense to just one sack in the game.

On Friday night in Canada, after starter Joe Smith went down with an injury, Logan filled in and ran for 140 yards on 18 carries. Logan's efforts helped the Lions to a 42-24 win over Winnipeg, giving BC its first win of the season.
