The University of South Dakota men's basketball team, has been named the Great West Conference Co-Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 25, the league announced on Tuesday.
Gentry (Jr., Sioux City, Iowa) shares the weekly honor with New Jersey Institute of Technology's Jheryl Wilson. Gentry is the second Coyote men's player to receive the GWC award this season as teammate Jesse Becker (Sr., Plymouth, Minn.) earned the weekly honor on Dec. 30, 2008.
Gentry had an outstanding game in the Coyotes' 98-77 win at North Dakota on Jan. 24, which marked USD's 13th straight win. Gentry scored 26 points in just 24 minutes of action. Gentry hit 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) of his shots from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. Gentry also added a team-high two steals to go with two assists and two rebounds.
In 10 games as a Coyote, Gentry is averaging 13.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
USD (16-5) returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 31 at home against rival North Dakota. Game time is 3 p.m. at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.
