North Dakota Tops Coyote Women for 2nd Straight Time, 68-55

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Mallory Youngblut scored 20 points and added 10 rebounds to lead North Dakota to a 68-55 win over The University of South Dakota women's basketball team in action Saturday at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.

It was the second straight win for UND (11-10) over the Coyotes (12-6). North Dakota won the previous contest, 75-59 in Grand Forks, N.D. on Jan. 24.

USD was led by a strong outing by Bridget Yoerger (Sr., Hinton, Iowa), who had 19 points and 15 rebounds. Jasmine Mosley (Jr., Bellevue, Neb.) added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Coyotes.

The Coyotes started out strong, opening a quick 9-2 lead 2:50 into the game. Mosley had four points for USD, while Annie Roche (RFr., Vermillion, S.D.) hit a three-pointer and Yoerger added a basket.

UND battled back to tie the game at 15-15 and eventually took the lead, thanks to the play of senior Kierah Kimbrough, who had 12 first-half points.

North Dakota led by as many as 12 points in the first half and held a 34-24 lead at the break. USD was cold from the three-point line in the first half, hitting only 2-of-13 attempts (15.4 percent). The Coyotes shot 40.7 percent from the field overall in the first half.

Yoerger paced USD with 10 points in the opening frame, while Mosley had six points and seven rebounds.

North Dakota stretched its lead to 13 points early in the second half before USD cut the deficit to 42-36 after a Yoerger baseline jumper. UND stretched the lead back to double digits before USD cut the gap to 61-55 with four minutes remaining after two Yoerger free throws.

But North Dakota scored the final seven points of the game on its way to the win.

Roche added nine points for USD. Yoerger and Maggie Youngberg (Sr., Yankton, S.D.) added five assists each. Yoerger had four steals and three blocks, both career highs.

USD returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 1 at home against Mount Mercy College. Game time is 3 p.m. at the DakotaDome in Vermillion, S.D.
